The Book Thief

It is not often that I re-read books, even ones that I love. I first read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak about 5 years ago and I loved it the first time around. One of my favorite genres is historical fiction, particularly books set in World War II. This year I have been more interested in re-reading books, especially some of my favorites.

The first time I read The Book Thief, I read the physical copy. Last week when I discovered the audiobook was on my library's free app, I decided to listen to it. I've been wanting to re-read The Book Thief since it has been so long since I read it the first time. I loved the narrator and all the dialogue was wonderful! I have to say this book is on my list of all time favorites. While the book is sad and emotional, it is also witty and heartwarming. I love the relationship between Liesel and her foster father. I also love the relationship between Liesel and Max.

I also feel like this book is a book for book lovers. The beginning of the book focuses on Liesel's journey with learning to read and discovering her love for books. I am going to include one of my favorite quotes from the book below that is from the beginning of the book. I highly recommend this book (especially the audiobook)!

"She was the book thief without the words.
Trust me, though, the words were on their way, and when they arrived, Liesel would hold them in her hands like the clouds, and she would wring them out like rain.”
- "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak
